7 Steps to Spring Cleaning

by Brandon Lecocq

Welcome to my latest post on Spring cleaning!

With Spring right around the corner, I know that getting your annual deep clean done can be a challenge, especially with busy schedules making it difficult to find the time and motivation for those thorough tasks, like scrubbing baseboards and cupboards. That's why I've put together a helpful plan in this post. I'm excited to share my top seven steps to help you conquer Spring cleaning like a pro, ensuring your home is refreshed, reorganized, and sparkling clean. So, let's dive right in!

Step 1. Make a plan:

Create a list of all the areas you want to clean and prioritize them. Start with the areas that require the most work and then move on to the less demanding ones. This will help you stay focused and ensure that you cover all the essential areas.

Step 2. De-clutter first:

Before you start cleaning, get rid of any unnecessary items in your home. Take time to go through your belongings and determine which items you no longer use or need. Donate or sell items that are in good condition and throw away items that are beyond repair.

Step 3. Take time to go through your belongings:

As you embark on your cleaning and decluttering journey, allocate some time to sort through items that you no longer use and determine whether they can be donated, sold, or discarded. This practice will not only help you free up space but also simplify your life by eliminating unnecessary possessions.

It's important to be honest with yourself about what you truly need and use, and let go of items that no longer serve a purpose in your life. When my family and I declutter, we ask ourselves two simple yet powerful questions: "Does this bring me joy?" and "Does this item still fulfill a useful function in our lives?" If the answer is 'no' to either question, it's time to part ways with it!

This approach will help you create a more organized and enjoyable living space.

Step 4. Use the right tools:

Before embarking on your Spring cleaning journey, it's essential to make sure you have all the necessary cleaning supplies and tools at your disposal. This includes cleaning agents, vacuum cleaners, dustpans and brooms, mops, sponges, and cleaning cloths.

I always recommend opting for eco-friendly and non-toxic cleaning supplies that are safe for both kids and pets. Additionally, consider investing in some microfiber cloths and reusable cleaning tools, which are not only efficient but also environmentally friendly.

With the right supplies in hand, you'll be better prepared to tackle the task at hand, making the entire process more enjoyable and efficient.

Step 5. Work from top to bottom:

When tackling the task of cleaning a room, it's crucial to adopt a top-to-bottom approach. Begin by addressing high surfaces and gradually work your way down to the lower areas.

This method ensures that dust and debris from higher surfaces don't fall onto already cleaned lower ones, eliminating the need for redundant cleaning. By following this systematic approach, you'll not only save time but also achieve a more thorough and efficient cleaning outcome.

Step 6. Tackle one room at a time:

To maintain focus and prevent feelings of overwhelm during the cleaning process, it's best to concentrate on one room at a time. By fully completing the cleaning tasks in each room before moving on to the next, you'll create a sense of accomplishment and progress.

This approach will help you stay motivated and organized, ultimately making the entire cleaning experience more efficient and enjoyable.

Step 7. Involve the family:

Transform Spring cleaning into a fun and engaging family activity by involving everyone in the process. Assign age-appropriate tasks to each family member, fostering teamwork and collaboration in pursuit of a clean and tidy home. Not only will this approach expedite the cleaning process, but it will also create a more enjoyable atmosphere, turning an often-daunting task into a bonding experience for the whole family.
